Attendance/Tardiness
Summer school operates in compressed time. Each half-day of instruction equals approximately one week of work covered during the regular school year.
Therefore, consistent attendance is expected from all students and excused and unexcused absences count the same. If a student is absent one day, he/she will have to make up that day.
Students are expected to arrive on time to class. Students will be required to make up the time missed in class.
If a student misses more than one day (6 hours/3 hours per ½ credit course) because of an absence and/or tardiness, they will be dismissed from summer school.
-
Transportation
Bus transportation will be provided for students to the summer school site. Summer school bus stops may not be the same as those during the regular school year. Bus routes are available on the Transportation Department webpage.
If a student misses the bus, the parent becomes responsible for transportation for that day.
Lateness or absences due to missing the bus will be counted as unexcused (see Attendance/Tardiness).
-
Graduation Requirements
Students who graduate from summer school must have the following:
- sufficient clock hours (classroom time)
- a passing grade in the course
- participation in any End-of-Course SOL test required by their class schedule
- verified credits from SOL testing to meet diploma requirements.
-
Code of Conduct
Students will be expected to follow the same RCPS rules and regulations as outlined by the Code of Student Conduct. Students will be given one warning for minor infractions. Further incidents will result in dismissal from summer school without a refund.
Students who are dismissed from summer school for disciplinary reasons will not receive a refund for tuition
