- Welcome Back, Falcons
-
Dear Fallon Park Student & Family,
Welcome to a new year at Fallon Park Elementary School! We look forward to working with you as a team to provide the best education for your child. Our theme this year is Handle Hard Better. We want to challenge our students, staff, and parents to embrace this motto in their daily lives. Be on the lookout for your chance to buy a school t-shirt with this motto on the shirt.
Your child’s teacher for the 2024-25 school year is ___(sent by mail)______________. Parents, if you bring your child to school on the first day, please be sure you let the office know how he/she will get home. If possible, please allow your child to ride the bus to school on the first day. This makes the job of getting everyone home much easier. Our new transportation provider will be Zum (pronounced Zoom). Bus routes will be available at www.rcps.info.
Fallon Park ES is a tier 1 school. School hours will be 7:15 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Walkers and car riders may begin unloading at 7:00 a.m. There will not be staff available before 7:00 a.m. to supervise students. It is for your child’s safety that he/she is not dropped off before this time. Bus riders will start unloading at 7:00 a.m. Breakfast will be served from 7:00 a.m. until 7:15 a.m. and instruction will begin promptly at 7:15 a.m. Students arriving after 7:15 a.m. will be marked tardy. The student must be walked into the building and signed in by an adult. Dismissal will begin at 1:45 p.m. Car riders will exit at 1:55 p.m. from the cafeteria. For the safety of everyone at Fallon Park, please follow all staff directions, traffic signs, and arrows. To ensure the safe arrival and dismissal of bus riders, cars will not be allowed in the bus lane in front of the LIFT Center. Your cooperation is necessary and critical to maintain the safety of students and the smooth loading and unloading of buses.
Frequent transportation changes are very confusing for your child and us. We are requesting that when bus or car rider information needs to be changed, you submit that to us in writing. When the note is received in the office, a transportation change form will then be provided to the teacher and student. No student will be permitted to leave with another student or adult without written consent. We will no longer be able to accept bus changes or car rider information over the phone, as we have no way of verifying the caller and this creates an unsafe transportation issue.
We want to ensure that your child receives a quality education in a safe environment. Therefore, we expect that your child will attend school on time daily and participate in the instructional program while following the Roanoke City Public Schools (RCPS) Code of Conduct. We ask for your cooperation with attendance and schoolwide expectations. We will support you and your child in any way we can so that your child will excel at Fallon Park.
On Friday, August 16th we will have our PK Orientation (9:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.), Kindergarten Orientation (10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.), new student orientation (12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.) and have an Open House for all students in grades 1st-5th from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Transportation will not be provided. Please feel free to bring any school supplies with you for any of the above sessions.
New 1st-5th grade student orientation is something new for Fallon Park this year. If you are new to Fallon Park this year, in 1st-5th grades, please come out to this orientation from 12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. We will introduce you to Fallon Park and provide school-specific information. This is not a required event.
We are looking forward to a safe and exciting year. If you have questions, please reach out to the main office at 540-853-2535.
Sincerely,
John Otey, Principal
