Dr. Megan Arthur (Principal)

Dr. Megan Arthur is the proud principal of Morningside Elementary School. Morningside is embarking on another exciting journey of educational discovery and growth! The Morningside team truly believes in the old saying, “It takes a village to raise a child,” and our Morningside village is ready to take on this exciting year of making a difference in the life of your child.  

Dr. Arthur has served students, parents, and staff of Roanoke City Public Schools since 2010, and she has both elementary and middle school educational experience. Before becoming the principal of Morningside Elementary School, she served as the assistant principal of Preston Park Elementary School. Originally from West Virginia, Dr. Arthur earned a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education with a focus on English and a Master of Education in Reading from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 2010. In 2017, she graduated from Radford University with a Master of Science in Educational Leadership. Additionally, Dr. Arthur completed the Doctor of Education program at Radford University in December 2023. 

Dr. Arthur is a committed lifelong learner, and she is passionate about the educational growth and learning journey of everyone in the Morningside village.

Mrs. Emily Scott (Assistant Principal)

Mrs. Scott is the proud assistant principal of Morningside Elementary School!

Mrs. Scott graduated from Longwood University with a Bachelor of Science degree concentrated in Special Education. After graduating from Longwood, Mrs. Scott started her career as a Special Education Teacher and volleyball coach at E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, Virginia, where she lived before coming to Roanoke. During this time, she went back to school to obtain a Master of Arts in Teaching from Liberty University.

She moved to Roanoke in 2017 and started teaching at Patrick Henry High School. Throughout her four years at PH, she served as a Special Education Teacher, Special Education Department Chair, Student Based Referral Team Chairperson, SAT Coordinator, Testing Coordinator, Softball Coach, and Volleyball Assistant Coach. In 2021, she went back to Longwood University and earned her Educational Leadership Endorsement.

Morningside loves having Mrs. Scott in their village, and she is committed to the learning and growth of all.
