Instructional Framework
Definitions
- Positive School Culture: We have a common set of expectations building-wide – our “3Rs” that are explicitly taught and reinforced consistently. In addition, our staff prioritizes building relationships with students that are based on a foundation of mutual respect.
- Teacher and Staff Ownership: Our teachers and staff are committed to our school vision. We have a shared understanding of what student success looks like, and we support each other to achieve our goals.
- Structured Classroom Environment: Our classrooms follow consistent daily routines and procedures. Instruction occurs bell-to-bell, and an objective and agenda are posted in the room.
- Effective Instructional Strategies: Our lessons are built on a foundation of high-quality curriculum and use evidence-based instructional strategies, materials, and learning experiences.
- Authentic Literacy: Students read, write, and discuss across all content areas. In addition, teachers explicitly teach content-specific vocabulary.
- Student Ownership: Students have voice and choice in the classroom, with learning activities that promote problem-solving, collaboration, and self-reflection
- Assessment and Adjustment: Teachers use a variety of assessment types to check for understanding and monitor student progress. By analyzing student data, teachers adapt their lesson plans to allow for re-teaching, remediation, and extension.
