Naming of the Administration on Campbell Avenue and CTE Center adjacent to William Fleming
On Tuesday, April 11, 2023, the School Board approved the Naming Committee's recommendations for the Administration Building on Campbell Avenue and the new Career & Technical Education (CTE) Center adjacent to William Fleming High School.
Based on the feedback received, the Naming Committee recommended naming each building along specific areas within each building to honor these individuals.The William B. Robertson Administration Building
Within the Building:• The Doris Ennis School Board Meeting Chambers• The E. Wayne Harris Professional Learning Wing• The Wendell Ball Academic Wing• The George Andrew Kegley Communications and Community Engagement WingThe Charles W. Day Technical Education Center
Within the Building:• The Lloyd Enoch Social Gathering Area and Courtyard• The Henrietta Lacks Health and Medical Sciences Wing• The Beth Brown Engineering and Robotics Wing• The Louis Phillipe Smithey Building and Trades Wing• The Joe Gaither Sports Medicine WingMore than 800 people submitted their feedback through a survey. The RCPS Naming Committee also hosted an opportunity for the public to provide in-person feedback on the naming options on February 23. The recorded livestream of that meeting can be viewed here.
The Naming Committee made its recommendations to the School Board on March 15. Their presentation can be downloaded here.
Please note: School Board Policy FFA grants the School Board the final say on the naming of buildings, including whether a building is ultimately named. All living nominees have provided consent for their names to be considered, and a good-faith effort has been made to obtain consent from relatives of nominees who are deceased.

Timeline & Process
August 2022
Naming Committee appointed
September – December 2022
Public nominations accepted for the naming of the new ROTEC adjacent to William Fleming High School and the new Administration Building on Campbell Avenue.
December 2022 – January 2023
All nominations were assessed to determine those in compliance with the School Board’s Naming Policy.
February 2023
Public Input on eligible nominations from February 6 – 28, 2023, with a public input meeting on February 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Media Center at the Administration Building located at 40 Douglass Avenue, NW.
March 2023
The Committee analyzed all feedback received and presented its list of recommendations for both buildings to the School Board on March 15. This met the committee's goal of completing its work prior to Spring Break.
April 2023
The School Board approved the Committee's recommendations.
