About Monterey
Monterey Elementary School is one of 17 elementary schools in Roanoke City Public Schools. Monterey, located in Northeast Roanoke, is an urban school with a diverse population. Despite the challenges of the urban school setting, the teachers and staff of Monterey are committed to providing all of our students with a safe, engaging and effective learning environment. Monterey is home to the Mountain Lions, and is led by Principal Morgan Strother and Assistant Principal Anthony Swann.

What time can students report to school?
We will welcome your children into our school at 7:20. Instruction will begin at 7:45 and they will be marked TARDY if they arrive after that time.
What are the school's hours?
Student hours are 7:45 - 2:25. Staff hours are 7:15 - 2:45.
What time does school end on early dismissal days?
School will end at 12:25 on early dismissal days. These days are preset and are on the calendar.
What if I have questions about my child's bus or bus route?
Please call Durham Transportation at (540) 970-3000.
Why do I have to sign in and out each time I visit the school?
All parents and visitors must stop by the office to sign in and receive a visitor's pass before visiting classrooms. This is to ensure the safety of all students and staff. Please be considerate and call ahead to schedule conferences with teachers to assure a convenient time for both parent and teacher. This helps assure a safe and uninterrupted learning environment for your children.
