Summer Programs
As RCPS+ transitions to the STAR Program this summer, RCPS wants to support families in finding alternate summer resources. Our Roanoke Summer Connect directory provides a list of free and low-cost resources. If your organization wants to be added, please email info@rcps.info.
RCPS offers summer programs for all ages to provide students with a way to remain connected to their school over the summer. Learn more about these programs:
STAR Program
This summer, RCPS will introduce the STAR Program (Students Thriving and Rising), which will replace our traditional RCPS+ model. The STAR Program will be a four-week summer learning opportunity for rising 3rd through 8th grade students on an invitation-only basis.
High School Summer School
Credit recovery and summer enrichment opportunities are available for high school students.
Community Builders
Community Builders is a new summer program for rising 8th graders, which provides fun, hands-on experiences outside the traditional classroom. The program helps students prepare for life in high school and beyond through college tours, career exploration, job shadowing, academic support, and much more.
Dream It, Build It Camp
This hands-on camp introduces students to in-demand careers in manufacturing, skilled trades, and STEM through real-world learning, teamwork, and field trips. This opportunity is available to rising 8th and 9th grade students who are curious about building, creating, and exploring future careers in skilled trades and technology.
Summer Reading Program
Students who read 600 minutes over six weeks and submit a reading log receive free prizes! The Summer Reading Program is open to students in all grades.
Staying Safe by Staying Connected
Roanoke City Public Schools offers a one-week athletics, career exploration, and fine arts camp, as well as a summer stock fine arts academy for middle school students through RCPS' Staying Safe by Staying Connected Program. New this year, a one-week band camp for middle school students is available.
Career Exploration Camps
RCPS partners with Virginia Western Community College to offer free week-long career exploration camps to rising 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students. Students may participate in one camp. Visit the Virginia Western Community College website to register.
